Charlie Sheen reveals he is HIV positive: 'It’s a hard three letters to absorb'

Charlie Sheen has released himself from his prison.

"It’s a hard three letters to absorb," the 50-year-old actor said when he revealed he is HIV positive on the "Today" show Tuesday.

It is "impossible" that he has infected others, he told host Matt Lauer. He does not know how he contracted the virus.

Sheen, who was diagnosised "roughly four years ago," admitted he has paid big bucks to keep his health status quiet.

After his reveal he is now free from the "millions" he has doled out.

"What people forget its money they are taking from my children," he said of the shakedowns.

The "Anger Management" star shared a story about an instance where a prostitute took a photo of his medication and threatened to sell it.

Sheen said he has only had unprotected sex with two people since finding out he was HIV positive and they were "completely warned."

His body was telling him something was wrong with "insane migraines and sweating in bed." Sheen told Lauer he was convinced he had a brain tumor.

HIV, which stands for human immunodeficiency virus, is the virus that causes AIDS. More than 1.2 million people in the U.S. are living with HIV - and 12.8% of them are unaware of their infection.

Sources told the Daily News on Monday that Sheen had safeguarded his diagnosis for years - but claimed that the powerful drugs he had been taking worked so well, follow-up testing failed to show the virus in his bloodstream.

The star's doctor confirmed this to Lauer. "It is an undetectable level in his blood."

"Charlie does not have AIDS," he added. (He) has contracted the HIV virus he was immediately put on treatment it has suppressed the virus he is absolutely healthy from that vantage."

His third wife Brooke Mueller learned about his diagnosis right away, Sheen said.

One source had said Mueller was "shocked" to learn about the virus after their 2011 divorce, while another reported she knew about it while they were still married.

The couple's twin sons, who are now 6 years old, do not have the virus.

Sheen's prior wife Denise Richards also knew about his HIV status long before his public announcement.

He contracted the virus after he and Richards divorced in 2006. The couple's two daughters, 11-year-old Sam and 10-year-old Lola, and Richards are all HIV-free.

Some of Sheen's other partners were more shocked by the news.

Ex-fiancé Scottine Ross, an adult entertainer who goes by the stage name Brett Rossi, blasted Sheen for allegedly dangerous behavior in a video provided to The Enquirer.

"You exposed me to HIV for a year and a half!" she lashed out, according to the publication.

Adult entertainment star and Sheen ex-girlfriend Bree Olson tweeted Monday that she was getting tested.

"Recorded myself for half an hour being tested for HIV and getting the results. This is so stressful," she wrote.
