He may be a superstar, but when it comes to his mother, Ashton Kutcher is just like the rest of us.
Of course, Kutcher is also a shrewd self-marketer, with investments in tech companies and a strong social media presence. So when he wanted to do something special for his mom for Mother's Day he mixed a little business with pleasure.
The actor and his stepfather, Mark, remodeled the basement of his childhood home in Homestead, Iowa, as a surprise for his mother.
He showcased the effort in a new web series titled "My Houzz" which is done in conjunction with the site Houzz, which showcases renovation, architectural, landscaping and home design ideas. Kutcher is an investor in the company.
The new basement included a fireplace, storage space and an area for her to house her beloved homemade salsa. His stunned mother, Diane, was in tears.
"We built something new that represents who you are," Kutcher told his mother. " it's just our way of saying thank you for giving us everything."
