A 34-year-old man, Monday Ekwekoba, was on Thursday in Lagos docked at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly killing one Wisdom Okafor, his friend.
Ekwekoba, a factory worker, who resides at No. 72, Clem Road, Ijaiye-Ojokoro Road in Agege, near Lagos appeared on a charge of manslaughter. The Prosecutor, Insp. Feddy Asu, had told the court that the offence was committed on March 22, along Clem Road at Ifako-Ijaiye. Asu said that the accused on returning to his house saw Okafor having a conversation with his fiancé and acted out of jealousy.
The prosecutor said that the duo engaged in heated argument during which Ekwekoba pursued his victim with a pestle.

Asu said that the victim while running away for his dear life ran into an on-coming vehicle which crushed him to death. Asu said that the offence contravened Section 227 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Section 227 says that any person who commits the offence of manslaughter is liable to imprisonment for life. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Magistrate, Mr E.O. Ogunkanmi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned till May 9 for mention.
