FAMILY, friends and fans said their final goodbyes to rapper Flabba yesterday.
He was laid to rest at Heroes’ Acre in Westpark Cemetery, Joburg, next to stars like Vuyo Mbuli, Victor Ntoni, Simba Mhere and Baby Jake Matlala.
Born Nkululeko Habedi, Mzansi first got to know Flabba as a member of award-winning group Skwatta Kamp.
He was allegedly stabbed to death by his girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele on Monday morning.
Last year Flabba was reunited with his father’s family from Nkandla, KZN and they were just starting to get to know him.
Nqaba Xulu, a family representative on his father’s side, told Daily Sun: “He came looking for his father, who is my brother.
“This happened recently so we didn’t have much opportunity to interact with him.”
Flabba’s wife Mpho Habedi, from whom he was separated at the time of his death, wrote a tribute to him.
Read by a friend, it said: “Our relationship was at the point of sunset but I truly believed it was on the verge of sunrise again because the sun sets and rises.”
Flabba’s cousin Motsiri said: “The last time we were with him everything seemed normal. He was singing with me.
“This is sad for the whole family.”
Flabba’s eldest daughter Lesego said: “I have to be strong for you because you’d want me to do that. I am celebrating what you did for the people you loved.
“I thank you for everything you did for us. Rest in peace, daddy.”
Award-winning singer and actor Kabomo performed at the service.
Before he sang he said: “I have never known a more genuine spirit.
“When I think of what a man should be, I think of Flabba.”
Joburg mayor Parks Tau and activist and poet Mzwakhe Mbuli also spoke at the funeral.
Mbuli said: “The music history of this country will never be complete unless we mention Flabba and Miriam Makeba.”
