The incumbent president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has sent congratulatory messages to opposition presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari.
The All Progressives Congress claimed that the party declared victory after president Jonathan called General Buhari at 5.15pm to make a concession and congratulate the winner.
According to Vanguard, “It has been reported that President Goodluck Jonathan has called his major challenger and the likely-winner of the 2015 presidential election, Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress, APC to congratulate him.
“According to a source, the president spoke with Muhammadu Buhari on the phone and will address the country after rounding off his meeting with his cabinet.
“He also spoke with the National Leader of APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
In a similar manner, The Punch reported that a top government official told their correspondent that Jonathan had called Buhari on the telephone to congratulate him.
Meanwhile, Jonathan is currently meeting with the leadership of the National Peace Committee for the 2015 general elections, led by a former military leader, Gen. Abdusalami Abdusalami (rtd.).
Others at the meeting included the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh; Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Cardinal John Onayeikan; and a former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Mrs. Priscilla Kuye.
The meeting is ongoing.
