According to the gospel of Matthew, the name Immanuel refers to Jesus who means ‘God with us’.
God liberated the Jews from slavery in Egypt and through the prophet Moses led them towards Canaan. Before the Jews could reach Canaan, Moses died. After Moses' death, Joshua was appointed to take Israel into the Promised Land. During the battles that Joshua would have to fight, God promised that He would be with him just as He was with Moses and that He would neither leave him nor forsake him.
In the same manner, God promises us saying, “I shall not leave nor forsake you.” You may have started this year with doubts like, "how will my future be? Will I pass in the exams? Will I get good marks? Will I be able to get the subjects I desire? Will I get a good job? Will I get married? Will the poverty in my family cease and will I see any prosperity?" It is for people who are tormented by doubts like this that God says, "my son, daughter, I will neither leave you nor forsake you, I will be with you just as I was with Moses and Joshua".
Yes, He is the God who will not leave us nor forsake us. He is the One Who will be with us always. Seek the Lord completely and totally surrender your life to Him. He will surely be your everlasting guide and will never leave you nor forsake you.
